Good to see you for Issue 14!
This past weekend we reached 30 people signed up for Performative Speaking online school. 30!
I had put a cap in at the number not really imagining we would get there. Instead, yall hit that number 2 weeks before the course even begins. I’m so freaking excited about this!
So what does this mean going forward?
I have a number of people who want to join the cohort which will take us above 30. I struggled with how to handle this when it happened but came up with a solution that will immediately increase the value for everybody.
First, I am adding 2 small group sessions each week that will take place during the day. 1 during the week and 1 during the weekend. Think of these like mentor sessions where we make sure each student has even more access and the ability to ask questions. That was not part of the original plan but I think it will be a huge benefit for students.
The course will open up an additional 20 spots so we can reach 50 people. That’s a big reason for the additional small group sessions.
Second, I convinced my law partner, co-coach, and co-teacher at SMU, Tyler, to suspend taking on any new legal cases…so that he will be joining me to teach Performative Speaking.
That means two trial lawyers that now total over 200 jury trials. Here is the other fun fact about Tyler…he was my first teacher and coach at SMU Law School on all of this stuff. All of my early learning came directly from Tyler. He taught me. I then revised and remixed things into Performative Speaking. But for the past 3 years, we have been teaching and coaching together.
So when I say a huge value has just been added, I’m not kidding. I am quite literally a product of his teaching. Tyler taught me and I turned into the public speaker I am today. What will happen when both of us teach you?

If you have questions please reach out directly to me. I am always happy to talk more about it.
This week I also updated my website to include a coaching page. After receiving quite a few requests the past 2 weeks, I figured it was time to share the news more publicly. Feel free to check out the new section here: Coaching Page
Seeing messages like this on Twitter has me so excited for October 19 to be here and Cohort 1 to begin.
Also, I was on Paul Lecrone’s podcast this week. Paul is an amazing podcast host with an inquisitive nature that makes the conversation both wide-ranging and a ton of fun. Hope you enjoy it! Check it out through this tweet link to find your preferred listening/viewing source.

“The one minute. The soldier’s minute. In a battle, that’s all you get. One minute of everything at once. And anything before is nothing. Everything after, nothing. Nothing in comparison to that one minute.” Tommy Shelby in Peaky Blinders
I wasn’t ever a soldier but this quote always sticks with me because it reminds me what it’s like delivering a huge closing argument on child abuse or murder case. It reminds me of the moments playing sports when the time was ticking down and the game was on the line. It reminds me that I love those minutes where everything happens at once and the stakes are highest.
Peaky Blinders is a great watch on Netflix. Pay attention to how they tell stories, the filming, and especially the music. Feel the mood and vibe. It’s a great example of a source of inspiration I use in Performative Speaking.
See you next week!
