Welcome to Three Things Thursday.
This week there are 276 people (up 58 from last week).
Hey there from Dallas, Texas.
A few weeks ago…
I sat at the table of a tex-mex restaurant in Houston, I had to remind myself to stay calm. Getting angry wouldn’t help my situation and in fact, would lead to things being said I would regret. I knew I didn’t want that to happen.
But I could feel the anger. The frustration. The disbelief.
This was not how I planned for this dinner with my parents going. The first time I had been home in months. I was hoping for support. I was hoping for encouragement. Instead, I got the normal response.
“Son, you are a lawyer. Stick to being a lawyer.”
You see, they knew I had been working on Performative Speaking. To them, it was a cute side hobby. Not my real job. Not my real passion. Just something to stay busy because of Covid.
“Son, you are a lawyer.”
Not the first time I have heard this from them. This makes sense because to them being a lawyer is a safe bet. A sure way to have a nice life. A comfortable life.
It meant they could tell their friends and other family members about their son…the lawyer. It made them proud. For that I am thankful. I owe them more than I will ever be able to say for all they have done for me. They set me up for success. They set me up for a nice and comfortable life.
I just decided I wanted more. I wanted different.
I decided I wasn’t Robbie the lawyer.
So I calmly explained where I saw this journey going. I saw Performative Speaking creating a community. I saw PS helping people. I saw PS changing lives.
You see, being a lawyer is all about minimizing risk.
But being a teacher/coach is all about maximizing reward.
They still didn’t get it. They said I would go back to being a full-time lawyer soon. They said maybe a few people would take the course but it’s just a hobby.
The next day I walked my dad through the entire first lesson. We left it there.
Last week, during the 2nd full week of a 35 person Cohort 1, he asked me if he could watch all of the lessons.
He said, “Robbie, I think you were right. I’d like to learn too.”
Never give up. Never stop chasing your vision.
Turn your doubters into fuel. Then turn them into your champions.
It’s nice to have Mom and Dad on board with Performative Speaking.
This week so many exciting things are happening that I have to share before we jump into Three Things.
We took the halfway point survey from students this week and so far the average increase in speaking ability is 21%.
21% better.
Every single person has shown improvement. It’s not just my trained eye and ear saying this. The students are saying this with their own self-assessment.
This is at the halfway point. What will it look like after all 5 weeks?!?!
I’m stoked.
Tomorrow I am opening up registration for Performative Speaking Cohort 2.
If you want more information check out: Performative Speaking
The form at the bottom will email me if you are ready to sign up.
I can’t guarantee anything, but there might be benefits to signing up in the next 24 hours through the website.
Cohort 2 will be an incredible way to start off in 2021 and build a skill every person needs.
This is how Cohort 1 has been looking.

Now for Three Things.
This is a brand new community that is desperately needed for salespeople. I partnered up with Cameron Holmes to create this community. If you don’t know Cameron, he is an incredibly successful salesman doing in excess of $45 million in back to back years. He is also a former college baseball player like me. Even though he was a pitcher, I don’t hold that against him.
With our experience handling every level of high stakes sales, communication, and pitching, we had to create what felt natural. A place to come together and network, ask questions, receive guidance, meet mentors, create value, and most of all learn from each other. Cameron and I will be teaming up to provide lessons, podcasts, q&a sessions, and to bring in other experts in various fields to helps salespeople become the best of the best.
If you want to learn more about this community, join the email list for Pitch Masters.

If you have 2 minutes to talk, get it done in 1 minute.
“Maybe we’ve spent too long trying to figure this out with theory” Professor Brand in Interstellar.
I watched this movie for the first time the other night. This quote stood out to me. It reminded me how we have to take action in order to find anything out.
The best theory is just that…a theory.
The movie also reminded me of how amazing Hanz Zimmer’s music is and why I love all of his work. As I continue to search for beauty in this world of shutdowns and lockdowns, this was a beautiful reminder that sometimes a journey into space with a movie and incredible music can give it to us.
Chase beauty. It’s worth it.
See yall next week and if you enjoy share with your friends.
Cheers.
Robbie.
